Mindful Self-Compassion Course
Time & Location
About the Event
Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an evidenced-based program that combines mindfulness practices
with self-compassion to optimize our emotional well being in the face of adversity and suffering. It is an
8 week course based on the research of and core components of the Mindful Self-Compassion program
developed by Kristen Neff, PhD, and Chris Germer, PhD. We learn first the practice of Mindfulness so
that we can consciously turn towards difficult experiences, thoughts, and emotions without acceptance
and with reduced resistance. Then we learn to use various Self-Compassion skills to bring a sense of
warm, connected, loving presence during these difficult moments.
You will learn to:
Bring mindfulness and self-compassion practices into daily life
Handle difficult moments with greater ease
Motivate yourself with kindness instead of criticism
Understand the science of self-compassion and mindfulness
Build healthier more satisfying relationships
Prevent and reduce caregiver fatigue
Common Misconceptions about self-compassion
What to expect:
The program is an 8 week group learning class. Each class includes evidence-based information on
mindfulness and self-compassion, guided experiential mindfulness and self-compassion exercises, and
instructor led group discussions and reflective activities. Midway through the course there is a half day
retreat to facilitate deepening your practice of mindfulness and self-compassion. You will also receive
weekly emails corresponding with each week’s lesson with recorded guided meditations from the
instructor and a summary of what was covered that week in case you miss a class and to facilitate your
home practice. It is recommended that you practice the mindfulness and self-compassion exercises
taught for around 30 minutes a day while taking the course. Participants who attend at least 80% of the
course will receive a certificate of completion.
